Since 1980 the peculiarity of the New York Earth Room, crafted by craftsman Walter De Maria, has been charming the inquisitive with something not effortlessly found in the city: soil (250 cu yd, or 280,000lb, of it, to be accurate). Strolling into the little space is an overwhelming encounter, as the aroma will cause you to feel like you’ve entered a wet backwoods; seeing such wonderful, unadulterated earth amidst this insane city is shockingly moving.

Imperative to take note of, the soil isn’t to be strolled on, and photographs are not permitted.
